About

Inspired by the impact beekeeping has had on my well-being, I decided to share this passion with others. I started the community project "Please the Bees," and built this website to create a space where people of all ages can learn about the vital role bees play in our ecosystem and the future of our planet. My mission is to raise awareness about the incredible importance of bees—not just for pollination, but for our survival as humans. It’s said that without bees, humanity wouldn’t survive more than five years on Earth.
My name is Nathan Wylam, a proud native of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, in the UK.
Throughout my life, I’ve experienced a journey quite different from most. Growing up in foster care, I faced many challenges during my childhood, including limited access to formal education. However, these hardships shaped my character in ways I never expected. They instilled in me a deep sense of gratitude, determination, and the resilience to overcome adversity. Living through these experiences taught me compassion, empathy, and the ability to be resourceful, all while keeping a sense of respect for myself and others.
Over the years, I’ve taken on many different roles in life and built a variety of careers. Most recently, I ran my own business, a smoothie bar, which I operated at festivals and events. It was an exciting chapter in my life, full of energy and connection with people. But life, as it often does, took an unexpected turn. After rescuing a dog, I found myself in a difficult situation, which led to a period in jail due to the dog’s behaviour. This was a tough time for me, one that left lasting emotional scars, and it took me quite some time to regain my footing.
After rebuilding my life and trying to return to normal, I was faced with another life-altering challenge—being diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer. The reason I share this part of my journey isn’t just because I’m still winning the fight, but because this diagnosis led me to discover something that has brought me a profound sense of healing: beekeeping.
Beekeeping has been transformative for me, not just physically, but emotionally and mentally. It has become more than a hobby—it’s therapy. Being around the bees has given me a sense of calm, joy, and purpose. It has helped me rediscover a passion for life, teaching me that there is always something new to learn. Every day with the bees is like a fresh chapter in life’s school.

This project is about more than just bees. It’s about connecting with nature, understanding our role in the world, and appreciating the fragile balance that sustains life on this planet. I hope this platform inspires others to protect these amazing creatures and the ecosystems they support.
I take great pride in endorsing the Bees community projects, its a noble venture aimed at enlightening and educating the public on the indispensable role the bees play in preserving the planet and safeguarding the integrity of our most nutritional food sources.
